Nesting Dolls

One of the major reasons of Matreshka popularity was the root Matra in the word, which in old Russian means gender. After the nesting doll appeared as a toy it was dedicated to Matryona, who quickly began symbolizing Russian Woman, who worked hard in the household, catering the children and guests. Russian Matryoshka nesting dolls soon became also a symbol of Russian family, Russian village, Russian Land.
