This Santa is crafted by hand: carved out of linden wood and painted with acrylic and gouache.
The painting of the gown decoration is based on Russian folkloric tradition to depict Russian Santa Claus (Ded Moroz, or Grand Father Frost), wearing a long gown full of Christmas characters, winter scenes and other Christmas decorations. The intention was to bring Santa Claus closer to the ordinary people. From late 18th century such characters as clowns, (shuti), as well as skomorochi, were actively involved in people's celebrations.14"H x 8.5"W
